Clean Scene: Decking Restoration in WF9
There’s something about a freshly restored deck that just makes a garden pop. Recently, we had the pleasure of transforming a tired, weather-beaten softwood deck in Hemsworth (WF9) – and the results speak for themselves. Whether you’re a homeowner, property manager or facilities manager, decking is one of those features that can go from stylish to shabby surprisingly fast. Luckily, that’s where we step in.
Before & After: A Tale of Two Decks

When we arrived, the decking had seen better days. The paint was peeling, the wood had lost its colour and algae/mould had set in, making it slippery (and a bit of a hazard for those summer BBQs).

After our restoration process, the decking was completely revived – clean, protected, safe and ready to shine for years to come.
The Decking Restoration Process (Ex-Clean Style)
Restoring decking isn’t just a quick jet wash – in fact, rushing it can damage the wood. Here’s how we carefully brought this decking in Hemsworth back to life:
- Sweep & Rinse – First, we cleared away debris and gave the deck a good rinse. This preps the surface for the real work ahead.
- Strip Old Paint (the dangerous bit!) – Removing old paint is a tough and risky process. Using professional-grade strippers and the right PPE, we safely removed layers of paint that were suffocating the timber. (Don’t try this one at home – trust us, your back and lungs will thank you.)

- Rinse – A thorough rinse to wash away residue, leaving the wood exposed.
- Apply Wood Cleaner – This stage opens up the grain, lifts out dirt, and restores natural colour.
- Rinse Again – Decks get more baths than Labradors when we’re around!
Apply Biocide – This treatment kills off algae, moss, mould, and any other organic nasties lurking in the wood.
Let Nature Help – We left the deck to dry for 1–2 weeks, allowing the biocide to fully do its job.

Sanding – Once dry, we sanded the boards. This isn’t just for looks – it opens the wood grain so the sealer can soak deep into the fibres.
Seal & Protect – Finally, we applied a premium stain-and-seal treatment. This makes the decking waterproof, brings out the warm natural tones, and ensures it can withstand the Yorkshire weather (rain, rain… and occasionally sunshine).
The Results: A Deck You’ll Want to Show Off

The transformation was night and day. The softwood now looks rich and vibrant, the surface is safe underfoot and the protective seal will keep it that way for years to come. You can now see the natural grain of the wood and it is sealed for protection.
This isn’t just a facelift – it’s an investment in keeping your outdoor space safe, practical and beautiful.
The Customers Thoughts?
It’s always satisfying when a project turns out just as we envisioned – but it’s even better when the customer is delighted too. After we finished the decking restoration, our client left us this brilliant review:
“James is really professional and made the whole process easy. The work he did was excellent and we’re very happy with the results. Our decking looks as good as new!”
Nothing beats hearing feedback like this. At the end of the day, it’s not just about making the decking look great – it’s about making the whole experience stress-free and rewarding for our customers.
